Design led vs. User led

I love this sort of article, reaffirming the leadership role of design. I firmly believe in this, and hope that with my work am able to be an example of this vs. just riding the wagon. via FastCo.

Among my favorite quotes, the apple design team's response to user centric design:
"It’s all bullshit and hot air created to sell consulting projects and to give insecure managers a false sense of security."

Camera that works like a 3d renderer...sort of

In some renderers, such as Maxwell, you can control light levels after the render. With this camera, you can control focus, after you've taken the picture!

Are We Built to Run Barefoot? via New York Times

Barefoot movement pops up in New York Times.

New Balance MT10 Minimus Trail based on Barefoot Running

My next pair, MT10 Minimus Trail.
You gotta love their warning
"CAUTION: This product should be introduced slowly into a running exercise routine. Overuse of this product or use for activities outside of running and walking may increase the risk of sustaining injury. This product increases the strain on the foot, calf, and Achilles tendon. New Balance recommends limiting initial use to 10% of overall running workouts and very gradually increasing time and distance."

more on the dao of steve jobs...more of less

"People think focus means saying yes to the thing you've got to focus on. But that's not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully. I'm actually as proud of the things we haven't done as the things I have done. Innovation is saying 'no' to 1,000 things." - Steve Jobs

Taking vs. Making in the U.S.A.

via wall street journal "Today in America there are nearly twice as many people working for the government (22.5 million) than in all of manufacturing (11.5 million)." The article goes on to say "President Obama says we have to retool our economy to "win the future." The only way to do that is to grow the economy that makes things, not the sector that takes things."

T-Splines

Teaching myself t-splines via tutorials online. I think I've just found my new favorite tool. If I had used this to do A Round,it would have been PROFOUNDLY easier and better. Looks like time to remodel.
It just seems too easy, like I'm cheating. Those transitions? and the control of edges? Oh...mann...First tutorial model in process:
